Undocumented Immigrant Court Accompaniment Training
No One Goes Alone is an initiative in partnership with our allies at Siembra NC in Wake, Durham, Orange, and Guilford counties to create solidarity with immigrants going to court and/or probation appointments. We, the Carolina Jews for Justice community, are being invited to show up to a court accompaniment training. Because we as Jews are taught that this is the right thing to do by our neighbors. Because some of us, and many of our ancestors, would have benefited from having someone by our/their sides when being subjugated to racist or antisemitic structures and systems.
Within the past year, ICE has broadened their activities, increasingly focusing on targeting people at court dates and probation appointments. The closing of the courts at the start of the pandemic provided a brief reprieve from these activities. Now, however, North Carolina is beginning to reopen and the courts will soon be taking cases again. No doubt ICE will be there as well, taking advantage of these particularly vulnerable points for the Latinx community.
This webinar will train you to accompany members of the Latinx community to in-person events in Wake, Durham, Orange, and Guilford counties like court hearings, probation appointments, and check-ins with immigration authorities. You'll learn how to navigate these spaces and act as a stabilizing, affirming presence, while being ready to document and record anything that might happen. These skills will be crucial in the next several months and onwards, as we continue in the struggle for immigration justice.
To register, first please click "RSVP" below. You will then receive an autoreply email with a link to complete your registration. We look forward to seeing you there!
Interested but can't make the training? Fill out this form here and one of our organizers will follow up with you to let you know how to get involved.
