Who We Are

Carolina Jews for Justice exists to mobilize Jewish communities in North Carolina around justice, democracy, and human dignity. Our work is rooted in Jewish values and focused on immigration, voting rights, racial justice, economic justice, the lived realities of our state, and the safety of our communities.
Right now, CJJ is advancing our strategic framework Sacred Resistance in 5786 centered on the Jewish values of Tzedek (justice), Emet (truth), Kehillah (community), and Chesed (loving-kindness). This means coordinating response to immigration enforcement, mobilizing for voting rights, building coalitions for community safety, and organizing Jews across the state to protect democratic values and human dignity.
The board and staff of CJJ are aware there are individuals who feel threatened by our work and seek to misrepresent it. We want to be clear about our core commitments:
- We oppose antisemitism in all its forms, across the political spectrum.
- We reject political violence, terrorism, and the dehumanization of any people.
- We believe Jewish safety is inseparable from the safety and dignity of all communities.
CJJ is part of the broader Jewish community, which includes people with a wide range of politics and relationships to Israel/Palestine. We do not require ideological conformity, nor do we believe that disagreement over Zionism or Israeli policy negates one's Jewish identity or concern for Jewish well-being. That kind of gatekeeping has never served our people.
We know that welcoming Jews with a range of politics and relationships to Israel/Palestine leaves us vulnerable to attack. But we believe North Carolina Jews can organize together to protect immigrant communities, defend voting rights, build community safety, and fight antisemitism even when we disagree about Israel.
We build coalitions across faiths, movements, and political perspectives because justice work requires it. We partner with those who share our commitments to nonviolence, human dignity, and democratic values, even when we disagree on other issues.
We recognize that threats to Jewish safety primarily come from white nationalism, political extremism, and the erosion of democratic norms. Much of our work focuses on combating these threats.
CJJ does not claim to speak for all Jews in North Carolina. No organization does. But we do represent thousands of members, supporters, and allies across the state who believe that our safety is inseparable from the safety of our neighbors. We speak from our values, our mission, and our responsibility to act where Jewish ethics demand engagement.
We remain committed to building a Jewish community that is courageous, pluralistic, and grounded in justice—and to doing this work in partnership with all who share those commitments.
This work requires resources and sustained support. If you believe in what CJJ stands for, contribute at: www.carolinajewsforjustice.org/donate.
