Our Dollars, Our Future 2023
CJJ members have been invited to this community event by the Budget and Tax Center. This event is not hosted by CJJ.
Our state budget matters for almost every aspect of our daily lives - from the air we breathe and water we drink, to the quality of our kids' education-and yet powerful lawmakers are intentionally leaving you out of the process.
Join the North Carolina Budget & Tax Center on May 2nd in Raleigh for a day of advocacy to take the budget back to the people. We will be requesting meetings with legislative leadership to demand a more transparent and equitable budget process, and joining together to discuss how we can organize to ensure future budgets fund the services and programs our state needs so every North Carolinian – from Boone to Wilmington and all parts between – has what they need to thrive.
What to expect:
- We'll have breakfast and lunch together between meetings with lawmakers and hear from you about your priorities for your community.
- We'll end the day with a press event to call attention to this issue.
- We’ll help with gas for those traveling to Raleigh.
Leading up to May 2nd we’ll also be doing a Policy Academy with all-virtual tax and budget 101 content. This is to help folks feel prepared to engage in fiscal and tax policy advocacy given the needs in their community, with a special emphasis on an inclusive process after years of diminishing opportunities for public input and a very quick pace that doesn't allow for debate.
