CJJ Community Round Up: February 27

CJJ Community Round Up: February 27

Whether you're one of our early members who got arrested at Moral Monday actions on the steps of the Capitol in Raleigh in 2013, or you saw a CJJ member last week at the market in that cool blue t-shirt and talked about the unjust redistricting maps, this event is for YOU!

You might be wondering, CJJ is doing great stuff, how do I get involved? How do I get one of those awesome blue t-shirts? Who leads my chapter? Are there other CJJ-niks in my neighborhood?! How do I actually repair the world?

Come to CJJ’s “This is who we are and what we do” Community Round Up!

  • Find out about how to join a campaign!
  • Hear from some of our partners!
  • Meet the new Interim ED!
  • Learn about our new democracy-in-action membership model! (Democracy is a verb!)
  • Meet chapter leadership!
  • It’s a meeting! It’s a party! Y’alla have a good time!

As part of our commitment to creating a more just, fair, and compassionate North Carolina, we are dedicated to making CJJ events accessible and welcoming to all participants! These are some of the practices we employ to support this effort:

  • Live Captioning — Live captioning is available for all participants, which can be activated by clicking the CC button in the bottom of your screen. Participants can hide/show the captions and adjust their size in the settings button found in the caret to the left of the CC button.
  • Visual Descriptions — The first time a person speaks, we invite them to provide a brief visual description of themself to enable full engagement from people who can’t see. Note: Descriptive accuracy is not a goal here. Please describe yourself as you want others to see you and with whatever information you want others to know about you.
  • Pace — We ask that all speakers speak slowly and that in our conversations we minimize crosstalk (i.e. not interrupting or talking over each other). Similarly, we encourage participants to use the chat feature lightly, as a tool to enhance or resonate with what is being shared.

If there are other things we can do to further support your participation, please email [email protected], and we will connect with you directly.

Please also take a moment to familiarize yourself with our Community Norms & Expectations (available here) in advance of any CJJ event. CJJ seeks to create a culture that models the just and liberated world we’re fighting for and minimizes the replication of oppressive systems, structures, behaviors, and dynamics. These guidelines aim to support us in enacting these values.
