CJJ-West COVID Response

The mountains that define our landscape are a comforting reminder of all that remains unchanged, even in this time of uncertainty. Like the ridgelines that surround us, there is much about the work of CJJ-West that hasn’t changed — our commitment to justice, our devotion to community, and our belief in the possibility of a better future is as consistent as ever.

We hope that you and your family are weathering this challenging time and staying safe. This is not an exhaustive list, but to ensure that our whole community — including you! — has the support and information they need, we've compiled a variety of trusted resources here.

Below is a compilation of ways that you can also join CJJ in advocating for just and equitable relief for everyone impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic:

 Ways to Provide Support

 Opportunities to Take Action

  • Support undocumented immigrants by pledging to contribute all or some of your stimulus check to those in our community who aren’t receiving any federal support.
  • Sign onto the People’s Platform, a collection of ten demands co-created by the NC United for Survival and Beyond coalition, advocating for just and equitable relief that prioritizes NC’s most vulnerable community members.
  • The WNC Workers' Center “builds power among workers of color through organizing, education and direct action, from an intersectional standpoint, to promote worker justice.” The organization has created this fund to support immigrant workers.
  • Sign onto the ACLU’s petition to Gov. Cooper, demanding that he take action to protect people inside NC prisons.
  • BeLoved Asheville offers rapid response for food, health, and safety issues. They also advocate for the rights of people without shelter to have access to safe shelter during this time. The above link provides a way to support their efforts.
  • Protect our democracy by promoting redistricting reform. Fair Districts WNC invites you to write to your legislators and write into your local paper to advocate for redistricting reform. Instructions to take action are available here.
  • We Give A Share offers supporters an opportunity to buy a nominal “share” of the farm dedicated to growing specifically for Southside Kitchen.
  • Sign the NC Justice Center's petition to the Governor and NCGA calling for Medicaid expansion to ensure that more low income North Carolinians can get the health care they need and deserve.

If you would like to become more involved in these efforts, please sign up and we'll be in touch soon!
