CJJ - CLT Meeting 4/5
The CJJ Charlotte Chapter and QC Family Tree will gather on Zoom to review and discuss the harm caused by racist policies and practices in Mecklenburg County. It is critically important that we understand Charlotte's history and how the past affects us in the present day.
The CJJ-CLT chapter will hold a meeting on Tuesday, April 5 at 7:30 PM. The meeting will feature a presentation by QC Family Tree on the report on systemic racism in our county and what steps can be taken to address these issues. ALL Charlotte-Mecklenburg residents are encouraged to read the report and to engage in community conversations about its findings.
In the summer of 2021, Mecklenburg County Commissioners commissioned the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Library to engage in research and craft a report on the harm caused by racist policies and practices of our County’s Government from its inception in 1868 to today. You can find the report here. QC Family Tree has created a Community Conversation Guide that we they can use. Here is a link to the conversation guide.
We will discuss the report and begin to identify the restorative measures our city and county need. Along with other members of the Coalition for Truth and Reconciliation, I believe our community is capable of coming up with empowering solutions- ones that create environments so that those who have been harmed can access the resources they need to make change. Once we come together to identify restorative measures and empowering solutions, we can collectively, with other interested groups, make recommendations to the County for restoration and repair.
