CJJ Action Hour with SCSJ

We are excited to invite you to join us every other Sunday for a civic engagement-related action hours. We've seen some incredible challenges come at our community lately, and sometimes it's hard to see how anything we do to push back can have an effect.  But as Jews, we have a tradition that values communal responsibility, and as organizers, we know that victories are often achieved by many small efforts adding up to something big.

Let's take some time this summer to do lots of little things that add up to something big.  At each action hour, we'll spend a little time getting to know each other better over bagels, and then we'll work on an activity that helps us and our coalition partners to build power, especially when it comes to supporting the enfranchisement of communities of color. We have provided our care and support to partners including the New North Carolina Project, Durham Tech, and NC League of Conservation Voters so far this summer. 

On June 30, 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court decided to take up Moore v. Harper, a gerrymandering power grab by the North Carolina’s state legislature. Moore will make it even easier for politicians to restrict the vote, draw gerrymandered maps, and cast doubt on election results, making it harder to turn public demands into public policy, from higher wages to healthcare for all.

It's time to fight back, and put people over politics.

State and local advocates are barnstorming North Carolina holding #MapOurFuture tour to build our movement and defeat this latest radical move from Raleigh. Join us for an event in Orange County on Sunday, August 21st at 1:30pm, where we’ll learn more about Moore’s implications for the future of our multiracial democracy and the issues we care about, especially for the upcoming midterm elections.
