Screening of "Suppressed: The Fight to Vote"
"Suppressed: The Fight To Vote" is a documentary film that captures deeply personal accounts from voters of color from across the state of Georgia, revealing deliberate, widespread voter suppression in the 2018 midterm election. Polling place closures, voter purges, missing absentee ballots, extreme wait times, and voter ID issues continue to threaten the strength of our democracy nationwide, disproportionately affecting Black Americans and minorities.
More than a civics lesson, though, "Suppressed" is a call to action. Following the documentary, Shelby Sugierski from Democracy NC will join us to discuss the current threats to voting rights in North Carolina and how you can play a part in protecting voters and our democracy in the upcoming election.
*Note: CJJ is not a partisan organization, and we are showing this film to highlight voter suppression issues, not to assert a position on either political party or any candidate.
